Designing Tips for Your Home

Are you wanting to update your home with some new flooring, a backsplash, or even a custom shower? Whether it is the kitchen, bathroom, living room, or bedroom, here are some tips on designing your home.
Tip number 1: Use the internetA good start is to look at pictures on Google, Pinterest, or Houzz.com. Interior designer Chereasa Roeth explains that using these sites can help a sales person or designer help you choose what is best for your home. Be sure to save those pictures and bring them along with you to show your interior designer or sales person when you meet with them.
Tip number 2: Choose the right colors.  Consider whether the colors you choose will work well with your home. Will you still like it a year from now? What about 5 years? 10 years? If imagining the color in your home is hard for you, let a designer or sales person help you. According to Bev, a consultant for home design projects, the colors of the flooring or backsplash should coordinate with the other colors of the room. “You don’t want to go too busy”, she says. The word busy would mean having too many colors or colors that don’t coordinate with your room.  You also don’t want to choose a color that would make the room look smaller.
Tip number 3: Go at your own pace.  If you are a person who wants to change every room in your home, then go for it. Dive right in. Choose that color you have always wanted. Get the flooring of your dreams. However, if redoing your home overwhelms you just thinking about it, then tackle it room-by-room. This approach helps divide the cost over time and reduces anxiety by knowing you’re not rushing into a decision. However, keep in mind that you may get a better price per square foot by purchasing a larger quantity. A sales person or designer can help you decide what the right products are for your home. You don’t want to choose a product that you’re not going to love. Take your time with your decisions. Redo your entire home or take it slow and go room-by-room. It’s up to you.
Tip number 4: Take Photos.  Do you have trouble picturing the finished product? You just can’t seem to picture how it will look in your home?  Maybe you have seen a floor that you love, but you’re not sure if it would look great in your home?  Or maybe your friend has a backsplash that you love and you wonder how it would look in your kitchen? Take a picture of it and save it. If you show a designer or a sales person an example of the style you are interested in, they can help you create the perfect look for your home!
By following these tips, your home makeover project will be one step closer to being complete. Once it is done, celebrate! You made it!
